Welcome Back to School - Please read the letter about starting school in the morning.
Questions to Discuss - HOW WILL YOUR CHILD GET HOME? Do they have a clean mask to wear to school? Do they have a water bottle? Have you completed the AUA form so your child can be assigned a Chromebook? Does your child know the days of the week they will be attending school and days they will be working from home? We look forward to a great, safe start to school.
Hello HTMS Families and Students,
We are looking forward to seeing all of you as we start back to school.
This week when you return we will be asking you for your Name, Team, and how you are getting home before you enter the building. At that time we will tell you your TEAM and Advisory Teacher’s Name. If you are eating breakfast you will need to let them know your First and Last Name. You may want to bring money for breakfast and/or lunch the first few days of school. You can also go to www.schoolcafe.com to make payments, apply for free and reduced lunch, and check menus.
Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday we will stay in Advisory on your Team. While in Advisory you will meet your teachers, fill out the Student Information Form, be assigned a Chromebook (AUA Form), log into your teacher’s Google Classroom, get to know your classmates, and take a tour of the school. On Thursday and Friday you will meet in Advisory first, then begin to follow your class schedule the remainder of the day.
Transportation - Please visit with your family to make sure you know how you are getting home each day. Car Rider, Bus Rider, Walker? It is SO important that you get home safely and that there is a good plan in place. Please go to the bus website and type in your address to get accurate bus information.
Students are more than welcome to bring their backpacks with school supplies the first day of school. Chromebooks (CB) will be taken home this year. Much of their work will be done on the CB so it is so important to take care of them. Please read over the AUA form - You also have the option to purchase insurance.
Attendance - We know some of you are coming all 5 days to school while others have chosen a Blended model of M, W, F or T, Th. Please communicate with your family/ teachers to be on the correct schedule and come to school the days you have chosen. If you have chosen a Blended schedule, you are expected to work from home checking your teacher’s google classroom and completing assignments. Logging into and completing the work also counts as your attendance that day.
Checking Out - If you need to pick up your child early please bring your driver’s license. We will also have a QR code linked to questions to help us speed up the process in a safe manner.
We are looking forward to working with you and having a great year. Please communicate with Helen Tyson if you have any questions or updates by calling the office:

💛🐝💚Welcome to HTMS 💛🐝💚 Hi! My name is Casey Rector and I’m a new 6th grade science teacher at Helen Tyson Middle School. I’m originally from Kentucky and have lived in NWA for over a decade. I completed a Master of Science degree from the UofA Fayetteville in Crop, Soil, and Environmental Science. For the past couple of years I have spent my time in the nonprofit world teaching NWA and Eastern Oklahoma students about water quality. I’m excited to be part of an exceptional team at Helen Tyson and I look forward to conducting science with the best students around!
